Target Information
This gene encodes the major vault protein (MVP), also known as lung resistance-related protein. Vaults are multi-subunit structures potentially involved in nucleo-cytoplasmic transport. MVP mediates drug resistance, possibly via transport processes, and is widely distributed in normal tissues but overexpressed in multidrug-resistant cancer cells. Overexpression of this protein serves as a potential marker for clinical drug resistance. Two transcript variants exist, differing in exon 2 sequences but encoding the same protein.
