Mi는 pigmentation, mast cell 및 bone development에 관여하는 basic helix-loop-helix-leucine zipper (b-HLH-ZIP) 전사 인자입니다.
인간에서는 Mi 변이가 Waardenburg Syndrome type II를 유발하며, 마우스에서는 피부, 눈, 내이의 색소세포 손실, 골경화증, NK 및 mast cell 결함을 초래합니다.
Mi에는 NH₂ 말단의 66개 아미노산 차이에 따른 두 가지 isoform이 있으며, melanocyte에서 52 kDa 및 56 kDa 밴드로, osteoclast 및 B16 melanoma 세포에서 60–70 kDa 밴드로 나타납니다.
