Target Information
The 20S proteasome is a protease complex responsible for cytosolic protein degradation and generation of peptide ligands for MHC class I molecules. Upon IFN-gamma stimulation, three constitutively expressed subunits (LMP2, LMP7, MECL-1/LMP10) are induced to form immunoproteasomes, enhancing class I antigen processing and presentation.
Independent assortment of these subunits can lead to up to 36 unique proteasome subsets, contributing to differences in substrate cleavage specificity between constitutive and immuno-proteasomes.
