Target Information

Fibronectin is a disulfide-bonded dimer with a molecular weight range of 230–250 kDa. In the extracellular matrix of connective tissues and vessels, fibronectin exists as an insoluble protein cross-linked by interchain disulfide bonds forming high molecular mass polymers. It is most abundant during embryonic development and tissue remodeling, and also present as a soluble plasma protein.

Fibronectin is organized as repeating modules forming domains for interaction with other fibronectin molecules, matrix components (e.g., collagen, heparin), and cell receptors (e.g., integrins). It plays a key role in cell adhesion and migration processes including embryogenesis, wound healing, blood coagulation, host defense, and metastasis. Increased fibronectin expression is observed in non-small cell lung carcinoma, where it enhances tumorigenicity and resistance to apoptosis.

The gene encoding fibronectin has three regions subject to alternative splicing, producing up to 20 transcript variants, though not all full-length variants have been characterized.
