Target Information
Fibronectin is a disulfide-bonded dimer with a molecular weight of 230–250 kDa. In connective tissues and vessels, it exists as an insoluble, cross-linked protein forming large polymers. Fibronectin is abundant during embryonic development and tissue remodeling, and also found as a soluble plasma protein.
It interacts with collagen, heparin, and cell surface receptors such as integrins, playing key roles in cell adhesion, migration, wound healing, blood coagulation, host defense, and metastasis. Fibronectin expression is elevated in non-small cell lung carcinoma, enhancing tumorigenicity and resistance to apoptosis induced by chemotherapeutic agents. The gene has three alternatively spliced regions, potentially producing up to 20 transcript variants.
