Target Information

CEACAM1 (CEA Cell Adhesion Molecule 1) is a member of the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) gene family within the immunoglobulin superfamily.
It is located on chromosome 19 within a 1.2 Mb cluster containing CEA cell adhesion molecules and pregnancy-specific glycoproteins.
Originally identified as biliary glycoprotein in liver bile ducts, CEACAM1 functions as a cell–cell adhesion molecule found on leukocytes, epithelial, and endothelial cells.
It mediates homophilic and heterophilic interactions and plays roles in:

  • Tissue differentiation and structural organization
  • Angiogenesis and apoptosis
  • Tumor suppression and metastasis
  • Modulation of innate and adaptive immune responses

Multiple transcript variants exist, with two full-length isoforms characterized.
