CYP21A2는 cytochrome P450 효소 초가족에 속하는 단백질로, 약물 대사 및 콜레스테롤, 스테로이드, 기타 지질의 합성에 관여하는 monooxygenase 기능을 가집니다.
이 단백질은 소포체에 위치하며, 스테로이드를 21번 위치에서 수산화합니다. 이러한 활성은 코르티솔 및 알도스테론 등의 스테로이드 호르몬 합성에 필수적입니다.
