Target Information
This gene belongs to the cytidine deaminase gene family. It is part of a cluster of seven related genes or pseudogenes on chromosome 22, likely arising from gene duplication. Members of this cluster encode proteins related to the C-to-U RNA-editing cytidine deaminase APOBEC1. These proteins may function as RNA editing enzymes and play roles in growth or cell cycle control.
A hybrid gene results from deletion of approximately 29.5 kb between APOBEC3B and APOBEC3A, producing a combined allele with the APOBEC3A promoter and coding region, and the APOBEC3B 3′ UTR. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
