Target Information
CDK9 is a serine/threonine kinase that, when complexed with Cyclin T1, forms an active holoenzyme complex regulating the eukaryotic cell cycle. CDK9 is coexpressed and copurified with Cyclin T1. It regulates cytokine-inducible transcription networks by facilitating promoter recognition of target transcription factors and promotes RNA synthesis in genetic programs for cell growth, differentiation, and viral pathogenesis. The CDK9/cyclin-K complex also exhibits kinase activity toward CTD of RNAPII and can substitute for CDK9/cyclin-T P-TEFb in vitro. Chronic activation of CDK9 can lead to cardiac myocyte enlargement and cardiac hypertrophy, predisposing to heart failure.
