Target Information
The EMX2 gene encodes a homeobox-containing transcription factor homologous to the empty spiracles gene in Drosophila. It is expressed in the dorsal telencephalon, olfactory neuroepithelium, and urogenital system. EMX2 plays a role in neocortex patterning and may regulate mRNA transport or translation through interaction with eIF4E. In the developing urogenital system, it is expressed in epithelial tissues and negatively regulated by HOXA10. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing.
