Target Information
Homeobox-containing genes are involved in developmental regulation. In Drosophila, the engrailed (en) gene is essential for segmentation and posterior compartment formation. Mouse homologs En1 and En2 mutations cause developmental defects, often lethal. Human EN1 and EN2 encode homeodomain-containing proteins implicated in central nervous system pattern formation during development.
