Target Information
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a peroxidase family protein involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prxs include six members classified into typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys Prx groups.
Prx VI belongs to the 1-Cys subgroup, while the other five 2-Cys Prx isoforms exhibit thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) activity utilizing thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH.
Mammalian Prxs have molecular sizes of 20–30 kDa and diverse subcellular localization: Prx I, II, and VI in the cytosol, Prx III in mitochondria, Prx IV in ER and secretory pathways, and Prx V distributed in peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol.
