The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the highly conserved cyclin family, characterized by periodic changes in protein abundance during the cell cycle. Cyclins regulate CDK kinases, and each cyclin exhibits distinct expression and degradation patterns that coordinate mitotic events. Cyclin I shows the highest similarity with cyclin G and is expressed consistently throughout the cell cycle. Its precise function remains undetermined.
