Target Information
This intronless gene encodes a 70kDa heat shock protein, a member of the HSP70 family. Together with other heat shock proteins, it stabilizes existing proteins against aggregation and assists in folding newly translated proteins in the cytosol and organelles. It also plays a role in the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway through interaction with AU-rich element RNA-binding protein 1. The gene is located in the MHC class III region, clustered with two related genes encoding similar proteins.
