Target Information
A novel member of the leukocyte receptor complex (LRC) encoded family, OSCAR, is expressed specifically in osteoclasts (OC). OSCAR plays critical roles in regulating innate and adaptive immune responses and acts as a bone-specific regulator of osteoclast differentiation. Osteoclasts are multinucleated cells responsible for bone resorption and homeostasis. Unlike other LRC members, OSCAR expression is restricted to preosteoclasts and mature osteoclasts. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
