Target Information

KCNQs are members of the voltage-dependent non-inactivating potassium channel family. There are five known KCNQs (KCNQ1–5) found in the central nervous system. KCNQ2 and KCNQ3 play key roles in M-current activation and form heteromultimers that significantly increase the M-current. Inhibition of M-current regulates neuronal excitability and synaptic responsiveness. Mutations in these proteins are associated with disorders such as benign familial neonatal convulsions (BFNC), deafness, neuropathic pain, and epilepsy.
