Carbonic anhydrase는 정상 조직의 pH 조절에 중요한 역할을 하며, 저산소 상태에서 세포 사멸에도 영향을 미칩니다. 따라서 CA IX는 저산소 상태의 신장암 등에서 신뢰할 수 있는 히스토케미컬 마커로 사용됩니다.
