Target Information
The HAND2 gene encodes a basic helix-loop-helix family transcription factor. It is one of two closely related HAND proteins that are asymmetrically expressed in the developing ventricular chambers and play an essential role in cardiac morphogenesis. These proteins function complementarily in the formation of the right ventricle and aortic arch arteries, contributing to congenital heart disease mechanisms. HAND2 also plays a critical role in limb and branchial arch development.
