Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 astrocyte 및 특정 astroglia, 말초신경계의 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서 발현됩니다. 또한 신경 줄기세포에서도 강하게 발현됩니다. GFAP 항체는 astrocytic 세포의 표지자로 널리 사용되며, 다양한 뇌종양에서 높은 발현이 관찰됩니다. 그 외에도 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 타액선 종양 세포, 적혈구 등에서도 보고되었습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정 중 astrocyte와 다른 glial 세포를 구분하는 마커로 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자 변이는 Alexander disease(희귀한 astrocyte 질환)를 유발하며, 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 다양한 isoform을 생성합니다.
