Target Information

Aquaporin-8 (AQP8) is a water channel protein encoded by the AQP8 gene in humans.
Aquaporins are a family of small integral membrane proteins related to the major intrinsic protein (MIP or AQP0).
AQP8 mRNA is expressed in pancreas and colon but not in other tissues.
It forms a water-specific, mercury-sensitive channel and is not permeable to glycerol or urea.
Expression is limited to pancreas and colon.
