Target Information
IL-23 is a heterodimeric cytokine composed of the p40 subunit of IL-12 disulfide-linked with a unique p19 subunit. It binds to IL-12Rβ1 and IL-23R, activating the Jak-Stat signaling pathway. IL-23 is secreted by activated dendritic cells in both mouse and human systems, playing a key role in inflammatory and autoimmune responses.
Human IL-23 induces proliferation of memory T cells and moderate IFN-γ production, while mouse IL-23 primarily induces IL-17 secretion. It is essential for Th17 cell differentiation, expansion, and effector function, contributing to neutrophil recruitment and pro-inflammatory cytokine production.
IL-23 also exhibits anti-tumor and anti-metastatic activity in mouse cancer models, suggesting potential therapeutic implications.
