Target Information
The BAF57 protein is part of the ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex SWI/SNF, essential for transcriptional activation of genes repressed by chromatin. It binds to 4-way junction DNA, mimicking nucleosome entry/exit topology. The protein includes a DNA-binding HMG domain; however, disruption of this domain does not abolish DNA-binding or nucleosome-displacement activities. Unlike most SWI/SNF proteins, BAF57 has no yeast counterpart.
