Target Information
MC1R (Melanocortin Receptor) mediates the effects of melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH) and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). MSH and MC1R regulate melanogenesis by controlling the balance between red pheomelanin and black eumelanin in skin. Non-functional receptors lead to lighter coat color, while constitutively active receptors result in darker pigmentation.
