Target Information
ZEB2, initially identified as Smad interacting-protein 1, is a nuclear DNA-binding transcriptional repressor that interacts with activated SMADs. Like ZEB1, it inhibits E-cadherin transcription and induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), regulating cell migration during embryonic development and wound healing. ZEB2 also protects cells from DNA damage-induced apoptosis, potentially contributing to tumor progression. It is often observed in the cytoplasm of various cancer tissues, suggesting regulated localization. Mutations in this gene are associated with Hirschsprung disease/Mowat-Wilson syndrome.
