Target Information
Macrophage receptor that binds to the apolipoprotein B48 (APOB) of dietary triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRL) or similar domains of APOB in hypertriglyceridemic very low density lipoprotein (HTG-VLDL).
Binds and internalizes TRL outside the macrophage context, possibly providing essential lipids to reticuloendothelial cells. May be involved in foam cell formation under elevated TRL and remnant lipoprotein (RLP) conditions. Mediates rapid high-affinity uptake of chylomicrons (CM), HTG-VLDL, and trypsinized VLDL devoid of APOE in vitro in macrophages.
