This gene product belongs to the tektin family of proteins.
Tektins are filament-forming proteins coassembled with tubulins to form ciliary and flagellar microtubules.
Although the exact function is not fully understood, TEKT3 is a structural component of ciliary and flagellar microtubules and forms filamentous polymers in their walls.
It is required for progressive sperm motility.
