Target Information
The product of the FDX1 gene encodes a small iron-sulfur protein that transfers electrons from NADPH through ferredoxin reductase to a terminal cytochrome P450. This oxidation/reduction system operates in steroidogenic tissues and is involved in bile acid and vitamin D synthesis.
The gene is located on chromosome 11q22, with pseudogenes on chromosomes 20 and 21. The expressed forms are identical and not tissue-specific.
