Target Information
Ractopamine is a phenolethanolamine β-adrenoceptor agonist used to improve weight gain, carcass leanness, and feed efficiency in pigs. It enhances growth by repartitioning nutrients—shifting them from fat storage to lean tissue production. As animals reach the top of their growth curve, lean tissue production decreases while fat deposition increases; ractopamine counteracts this by promoting lipolysis (fat breakdown).
Using the ractopamine polyclonal antibody, ractopamine and related agonists can be rapidly and accurately detected in urine, muscle, and liver samples.
