Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with a well-defined epitope (W40, R-53) on CD59 (Protectin), an 18–20 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein expressed on the surface of all hematopoietic cells and widely present across tissues.
It does not compete with MEM-43/5 and exhibits blocking activity.


Target Information

CD59 (Protectin) is a small (18–20 kDa) GPI-anchored inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC), ubiquitously expressed across tissues.
It preserves autologous cells from complement-mediated lysis by binding complement C8 and/or C9 during MAC assembly, preventing pore formation.
Additionally, CD59 acts as a low-affinity ligand of human CD2, contributing to T cell costimulation and lymphocyte signaling.
Mutations in CD59 can lead to deficiency associated with hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
