Target Information
CLN6 is a 311-amino acid protein with 7 predicted transmembrane domains, conserved across vertebrates. It localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum but contributes to lysosomal function. Mutations in the CLN6 gene cause variant late-onset infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (vLINCL), a lysosomal storage disorder characterized by progressive mental deterioration and blindness. CLN6 is one of eight proteins (CLN1–8) associated with neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCL), a group of severe inherited neurodegenerative disorders in children.
