Target Information
MHC class II gene expression is regulated at the transcriptional level by transcription factors binding to the X and Y boxes, two conserved promoter elements.
NFX1 functions as a transcriptional repressor binding to the conserved X box motif of HLA-DRA and other MHC class II genes in vitro.
It may regulate the duration of inflammatory responses by limiting the induction period of class II MHC molecules by IFN-gamma.
Three alternative splice variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
