Target Information
PDZK1 is a scaffold protein that connects plasma membrane proteins and regulatory components, regulating their surface expression in epithelial cell apical domains. It may coordinate diverse regulatory processes for ion transport and second messenger cascades. In complex with SLC9A3R1, it can cluster functionally dependent proteins and modulate trafficking and activity of associated membrane proteins. It may also participate in multidrug resistance mechanisms via interactions with ABCC2 and PDZK1IP1, and potentiate CFTR chloride channel activity. PDZK1 links SCARB1 with intracellular cholesterol transport machinery and may regulate proximal tubular Na(+)-dependent phosphate cotransport, playing a key role in tubule function.
