Target Information

The CLCN7 gene encodes a chloride channel protein that belongs to the CLC chloride channel family. These channels are important in the plasma membrane and intracellular organelles.
Mutations in this gene cause osteopetrosis autosomal recessive type 4 (OPTB4), also known as infantile malignant osteopetrosis type 2, and autosomal dominant osteopetrosis type 2 (OPTA2), also called Albers-Schönberg disease or marble disease.
Osteopetrosis is a rare genetic disorder characterized by abnormally dense bone due to defective resorption of immature bone. OPTA2 is the most common form, typically occurring in adolescence or adulthood.
