Target Information
The SERPINC1 gene encodes a plasma protease inhibitor belonging to the serpin superfamily. It inhibits thrombin and other activated serine proteases in the coagulation system, thereby regulating blood coagulation. The protein contains two functional domains:
- Heparin-binding domain at the N-terminus
- Reactive site domain at the C-terminus
The inhibitory activity is enhanced by heparin. Over 120 mutations have been reported, several of which are associated with antithrombin-III deficiency.
