Target Information

Cytochrome c oxidase is the terminal enzyme of the mitochondrial electron transport chain that drives oxidative phosphorylation. It consists of multiple subunits forming complexes II, III, and IV, which transfer electrons from NADH and succinate to molecular oxygen, generating an electrochemical gradient across the inner mitochondrial membrane. This gradient powers ATP synthesis. Subunit 2 of cytochrome c oxidase facilitates electron transfer from cytochrome c to the active site in subunit 1, where oxygen is reduced to water.
