Target Information
The membrane-associated protein encoded by this gene belongs to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. ABC proteins transport various molecules across cell membranes and are grouped into seven subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, White).
This protein is part of the MDR/TAP subfamily and functions as an ATP-dependent efflux pump for xenobiotic compounds, contributing to multidrug resistance. It reduces intracellular drug accumulation and mediates resistance to anticancer drugs. Additionally, it serves as a transporter in the blood-brain barrier.
