Target Information
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis and consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits contain 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins.
The RPLP2 gene encodes a ribosomal phosphoprotein that is part of the 60S subunit and belongs to the L12P family. It functions in the elongation step of protein synthesis and is acidic, unlike most ribosomal proteins.
The C-terminal region of RPLP2 is nearly identical to that of ribosomal phosphoproteins P0 and P1, allowing it to form a pentameric complex (P0 monomer + P1/P2 dimers). The protein localizes in the cytoplasm, and multiple processed pseudogenes exist throughout the genome.
