Target Information
CD36 (scavenger receptor class B member 3) is expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It plays roles in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis.
CD36 mediates uptake of oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells, and is involved in malaria pathogenesis.
It functions as a receptor for thrombospondin and collagen, and mutations can cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency.
Associated diseases include Platelet Glycoprotein IV Deficiency and Coronary Heart Disease 7.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist.
