Target Information
The NOX family of NADPH oxidases consists of seven transmembrane proteins that oxidize intracellular NADPH/NADH, leading to electron transport across membranes and reduction of molecular oxygen to superoxide.
NOX3 is mainly expressed in the inner ear and plays a role in the biogenesis of otoconia/otolith. It may be activated by the Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 (TRPV1), increasing reactive oxygen species levels in the inner ear and contributing to STAT1-mediated inflammation and hearing loss.
