Target Information

MLC1 may function as a transporter or non-selective neuronal cation channel. Although its precise role is unknown, sequence homology suggests involvement as an integral membrane transporter. Mutations in MLC1 are linked to megalencephalic leukoencephalopathy with subcortical cysts, an autosomal recessive neurological disorder. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
