CNOT3는 CCR4-NOT 복합체의 구성 요소로, 세포 내 주요 mRNA deadenylase 중 하나입니다. 이 복합체는 mRNA 분해, miRNA 매개 억제, 번역 개시 단계의 억제, 전사 조절 등 다양한 세포 과정과 관련되어 있습니다. 또한 대사 조절, 에너지 대사 관련 mRNA의 deadenylation 표적 모집, 유사분열 진행 및 spindle assembly checkpoint 조절에도 관여합니다. 전사 억제 기능을 가지며, 히스톤 탈아세틸화효소를 통한 전사 조절과도 연관될 수 있습니다. 배아줄기세포(ES cell) 정체성 유지에도 중요한 역할을 합니다.
