The immunogen is a rat monoclonal antibody raised against human lymphocytes.
Target Information
Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein that forms part of the MHC class I complex.
It is expressed on many human cell types including lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial, and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes.
The protein is also found freely in plasma and shares structural homology with immunoglobulin constant regions, consisting mainly of beta-pleated sheets.
B2M plays roles in antigen processing, presentation, TCR signaling, and CD8+ cell activation.
Encoded by the B2M gene on chromosome 15, mutations can lead to hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia.
B2M levels are used to assess renal function and serve as a prognostic marker in HIV infection.
