Antibody detects endogenous levels of total KCNQ5.
Target Information
KCNQs are members of the voltage-dependent non-inactivating potassium channel family. Currently, five KCNQs (KCNQ1–5) are known, primarily expressed in the central nervous system. KCNQ3 and KCNQ5 can form heteromultimers that significantly increase the M-current. Inhibition of this current regulates neuronal excitability and synaptic responsiveness.
Mutations in KCNQ genes are associated with disorders such as benign familial neonatal convulsions (BFNC), deafness, neuropathic pain, and epilepsy. These voltage-dependent potassium channels play a critical role in maintaining resting membrane potential and modulating excitability of electrically active cells. They are typically tetrameric and may interact with auxiliary subunits that modify current properties.
