DDR2는 RTK(수용체 티로신 키나제) 하위 클래스에 속하며, factor VIII 유사 도메인을 포함하는 독특한 세포외 영역을 갖습니다. DDR1 및 DDR2는 Gleevec에 의해 강력히 억제되는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. DDR2는 정상적인 골 발달에 필요하며, MAP kinase 경로를 통해 RUNX2 전사 인자를 활성화하여 조골세포 분화 및 연골세포 성숙을 조절합니다. 또한 MMP1, MMP2, MMP13 콜라게나아제의 상향 조절을 통해 세포 이동 및 종양 침윤을 촉진하고, 섬유아세포 이동 및 증식을 유도하여 피부 상처 치유에 기여합니다.
