Target Information
Pre-mRNA splicing is catalyzed by the spliceosome, a complex of specialized RNA and protein subunits that removes introns from transcribed pre-mRNA. The spliceosome includes snRNPs U1, U2, U4, U5, and U6, along with ~80 conserved proteins.
U5 snRNP contains nine specific proteins, and this gene encodes one of them. SNRNP200 belongs to the DEXH-box family of putative RNA helicases and functions as a core component of U4/U6-U5 snRNPs, catalyzing ATP-dependent unwinding of U4/U6 RNA duplexes.
Mutations in SNRNP200 are associated with autosomal-dominant retinitis pigmentosa. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, though their full-length structures are not fully determined.
