Beta-III tubulin은 주로 신경세포에서 발현되며, 신경 발생, 축삭 유도 및 유지에 관여할 수 있습니다.
Beta-tubulin 유전자의 돌연변이는 제3형 외안근섬유증(congenital fibrosis of the extraocular muscles type 3)의 원인으로 알려져 있습니다.
Beta-III tubulin은 고환의 Sertoli 세포 및 비신경성 배아 조직에서도 일시적으로 발현됩니다.
Tubulin은 세포주기 동안 CDK1에 의해 Ser-172에서 인산화되며, 이는 미세소관으로의 결합을 억제합니다.
