Product Specific Information
PA1-342 detects cytochrome P450 (P450) 2A6 from human, mouse, and rat samples. This antibody detects, to a lesser extent, other P450 isoforms.
It has been successfully used in Western blot procedures, detecting an ~49 kDa protein representing P450 2A6 from rat liver extract.
The immunogen used is purified, His-tagged, full length human P450 2A6 fusion protein.
Target Information
The CYP2A6 gene encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. These proteins are monooxygenases that catalyze reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids, and other lipids.
CYP2A6 localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum and its expression is induced by phenobarbital. The enzyme hydroxylates coumarin and metabolizes nicotine, aflatoxin B1, nitrosamines, and some pharmaceuticals.
Individuals with certain allelic variants exhibit poor metabolizer phenotypes, showing reduced metabolism of coumarin or nicotine.
This gene is part of a large cluster of cytochrome P450 genes (CYP2A, CYP2B, CYP2F subfamilies) on chromosome 19q and was formerly referred to as CYP2A3, now renamed CYP2A6.
