Target Information
Thromboxane synthase encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. These proteins are monooxygenases that catalyze reactions involved in drug metabolism and lipid synthesis. Thromboxane synthase converts prostaglandin H2 to thromboxane A2, a potent vasoconstrictor and platelet aggregation inducer. It is implicated in hemostasis, cardiovascular disease, and stroke. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
