Target Information
NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase (complex I) is a multiprotein complex located in the inner mitochondrial membrane. It plays a critical role in energy metabolism by transporting electrons from NADH to ubiquinone, accompanied by proton translocation from the mitochondrial matrix to the intermembrane space. Human complex I consists of 41 subunits, some encoded by mitochondrial genes (subunits 1–7) and others by nuclear genes imported from the cytoplasm. NADH dehydrogenase subunit 3 (ND3) localizes to the hydrophobic region of complex I. Mutations in ND3 may be associated with Parkinson’s disease.
