Target Information
The FADS2 gene encodes a member of the fatty acid desaturase (FADS) family. These enzymes regulate the unsaturation of fatty acids by introducing double bonds between specific carbons in the fatty acyl chain. Members of the FADS family contain an N-terminal cytochrome b5-like domain and a C-terminal desaturase domain characterized by conserved histidine motifs. The FADS1, FADS2, and FADS3 genes are clustered at 11q12–q13.1, likely originating from gene duplication due to their similar exon/intron organization.
